How to set up SmoothWizard?

Configure the app for max gaming performance - from Basic to PRO, games, system, and phone. For each option: set it first, then check the result on your PC.

Kernel Timer Optimization

Kernel Timer tunes the Windows kernel clock to 0.500 ms. Lower input lag, stabler frametimes - a modern alternative to Timer Resolution / ISLC.

Start

Basic cockpit

The first screen is quick toggles and Windows tools. Set bubbles and shortcuts, then confirm they behave as you expect before a game.

  1. Status bubbles - Set: LMB toggles Basic, PRO, mobile server, app autostart. RMB = Toggle / Autostart / Show more. Test: enable Basic before a game and check that background load quiets down; with PRO use Clear RAM before a match - compare free RAM and smoothness.
  2. Temp cleanup - Set: AppData, Windows, Prefetch (also automatic in Basic). Test: clean temp before a session; after relaunching a title check loading and shader hitches.
  3. Shader cache - Set: NVIDIA / AMD / Intel / DirectX / Vulkan. Test: close games, clean, launch a title and check first-time shader hitch.
  4. RAM cleanup - Set: PRO only. Test: clear before a match; in-game compare free RAM and whether long-session drops eased.
  5. Tray shortcuts - Set: cockpit pins in Settings. Test: tray icon RMB - same shortcuts as the cockpit without opening the app window.
  6. Task Manager and process killer - Set: keep handy. Test: when a process hangs before a game, kill it from the shortcut; after relaunch check FPS and input lag.
  7. DNS change - Set: measured DNS or reset. Test: ping in-app, then lobby latency / packet loss.
  8. System repair and restore points - Set: restore point before big changes. Test: SFC/DISM when Windows misbehaves; roll back if needed.
  9. Classic right-click - Set: Win10 menu on Win11. Test: desktop / file RMB - old menu returns.

Cockpit is convenience, not the main FPS jump. Temp is already cleaned by Basic. The on-site WinUI demo mirrors the client UI - without real system changes.

Must-run

Basic optimization

Run it even if you use PRO.

One switch puts the PC in "game mode", another click restores normal. Recommended order (set, then test):

  1. Disable Xbox services - Set: uncheck if you do not need Game Pass / Xbox. Test: Minecraft or Game Pass title - if login fails, re-enable Xbox.
  2. Disable RAM compression - Set: with 16 GB RAM or more. Test: compare stutter / CPU cost of memory in-game.
  3. Change power plan - Set: SmoothWizard plan + screen/disk timeouts. Test: GPU should not throttle from Balanced; disable Basic to restore.
  4. AutoStart optimization - Set: game mode with app start. Test: reboot - Basic already ON. Not the same as Windows app Autostart in Settings.
  5. Master optimization switch - Set: enable last. Test: launch a game - quieter background; disable Basic and confirm restore.

App AutoStart with Windows is separate in Settings - not the same as optimization AutoStart.

Everything is reversible. System restore points are available too.

Uncheck Xbox for Minecraft or Xbox Game Pass games. Basic + PRO is the best duo for stable FPS.

Fullscreen

PRO optimization

PRO engages on fullscreen (or the skip-fullscreen list). Set the base first, then test in-game or via Optimization test in the app:

  1. Master + autostart - Set: both ON. Test: enter fullscreen - PRO should engage alone; exit restores.
  2. Optimization test - Set: option under the PRO switch. Test: use Test when you cannot go fullscreen - check LOW/MID/HIGH profiles and the pause list before your first match.
  3. Disable UI + mask - Set: less Windows UI while playing. Test: Alt-Tab / toasts - less edge noise.
  4. CPU core control - Set: carefully on weak CPUs; on strong PCs parking CPU0 often helps P1. Test: 1% lows / stutter in the same map spot before/after.
  5. Entry delay - Set: 0.5-15 s on older PCs. Test: if PRO engages too early (black screen / launcher crash), raise delay.
  6. Pause process list - Set: browser, updaters, Discord when not chatting. Test: free RAM in-game; processes resume after exit.
  7. No-fullscreen list / exclusions - Set: borderless games / launchers. Test: listed titles engage PRO without true fullscreen.
  8. Emergency button - Set: remember the control. Test: one click disables PRO when something goes wrong.

LOW-MID

On weaker PCs: enable base options, run optimization, park unused apps on the pause list. Be careful with cores if you have few threads. Then 10 minutes in your main game and compare stutter.

MID-HIGH

On stronger hardware: same base, with or without cores. Keeping CPU0 off the game can improve P1 and 1% lows - verify with CapFrameX / RTSS in the same scenario.

Processes to pause

Paused (not killed) processes free RAM. Add what you do not need in-game. <em>Test:</em> Task Manager in-game shows Suspended; after exit - Running.

Less RAM for background

Background can move to disk instead of holding RAM. <em>Test:</em> enable before a match, check free RAM and that Discord still works when you need it.

Kernel Timer

Kernel Timer tunes the Windows kernel clock - lower latency, snappier mouse, stabler frametimes. Modern alternative to Timer Resolution / ISLC. Set: enable + optional per-game skips. Test: mouse feel and frametime in the same deathmatch before/after.

That is enough to aim PRO at high FPS. Then tune for your PC and main game. Questions? Discord.

Per-game

Games optimization

Ready profiles for 70+ titles. Per game: find title → set → test in a match.

  1. Optimize - Set: one-click config. Test: backup first; enter the game and check graphics / feel.
  2. Backup / Restore - Set: always before Optimize. Test: Restore and confirm your old options returned.
  3. Launch - Set: priority + monitor. Test: game starts on the right screen with the chosen priority.
  4. Launch options - Set: copy into the launcher when needed. Test: restart with the new args.
  5. Add-ons - Set: only when the game exposes them (LOD, Minecraft, FiveM, CS2…). Test: one change at a time, then a short match and compare FPS / input lag.
  6. Voting - Set: suggest a missing title. Test: confirm your suggestion landed on the list - the community picks next games.

Game missing? Basic + PRO still help. The community picks next titles in-app.

Desktop

Apps optimization

Same idea as games, but for desktop apps - API catalog, backups and restore.

  1. Optimize / Start / Priority - Set: like games. Test: launch with the chosen priority; in Task Manager confirm the process starts higher and runs smoother under load.
  2. Backup and restore - Set: before Optimize. Test: Restore after experiments.
  3. NVIDIA Control Panel preset - Set: global performance profile with backup. Test: confirm the SW profile in NVIDIA panel; Restore if needed.

Useful when you want a driver / NVIDIA panel preset without manual digging.

Windows

System optimization

Full, safe Windows 10/11 optimization. Order: restore point → green Optimize → tune sections → test daily use.

  1. Green Optimize button - Set: recommended pack + restore point. Test: reboot, daily Windows + one game session; roll back if needed.
  2. Basics - Set: telemetry, privacy, UI, Windows Update as needed. Test: Update and security still behave as you want.
  3. RegEdit - Set: Game Mode, RAM, Fast Startup, Game DVR, power, network limits. Test: one group at a time; measure stutter / input.
  4. Debloat - Set: only unused system apps. Test: you did not remove something you still use (Xbox, Store…).

Scripts were iterated from community feedback. Inspired by Debloat Win10 (W4RH4WK) - rebuilt from scratch since then. Changes are reversible.

Live

Hardware monitor

Live overview without a built-in FPS counter (the app does not include one - and we do not promise it in copy).

  1. CPU / GPU / RAM - Set: open the monitor after optimization. Test: quieter background, temps OK, more free RAM in-game.
  2. CPU temperature source - Set: a sensor you trust. Test: compare with HWInfo under load.
  3. Sensor browser - Set: temp / load / clock / power categories. Test: background load really drops with PRO.

Great to confirm background load dropped after optimization and temps stay sane.

Preferences

Settings and tray

Day-to-day app behavior - do not confuse with Basic optimization AutoStart.

  1. Language - Set: PL / EN. Test: after restarting the app all labels match your language.
  2. Autostart with Windows - Set: start minimized / to tray. Test: after logon the app is in tray; Basic optimization Autostart is separate.
  3. Tray menu and pins - Set: shortcuts under icon RMB. Test: same actions as the cockpit without opening the window.
  4. Account / license - Set: sign in, refresh license. Test: confirm in Games and PRO that you have access for your plan (Basic / PRO / Trial).

Tray is your always-on mini cockpit: temp, DNS, game groups, optimization status.

LAN + PIN

Guide: phone - PC

Control optimization from your phone on the same Wi-Fi / LAN.

The mobile app connects over the local network (4-digit PIN): Basic/PRO, usage, processes, shutdown / restart / lock. Each step: set on PC, then test from the phone.

    Install the phone app

    Get SmoothWizard Mobile from the App Store or Google Play (links are also in the PC mobile-server tab).

    Enable the mobile server on PC

    In SmoothWizard on Windows open the mobile server tab (or the cockpit bubble) and enable the server. Optional server Autostart. <em>Test:</em> Connection status on the PC app shows ready; the phone must see the PC on the same network.

    Set a PIN

    Enable PIN protection and remember the 4 digits. <em>Test:</em> without PIN the phone cannot connect; wrong PIN = denied.

  4. 4

    Same network + firewall

    Phone and PC must be on the same LAN. If the phone cannot see the PC - use Windows firewall repair in this tab (SmoothWizard must be allowed to discover LAN devices).

  5. 5

    Connect from the phone

    Open the mobile app, pick your PC, enter the PIN. <em>Test:</em> enable Basic from the phone and check status on the PC.

  6. 6

    What you can do from the phone

    Basic / PRO, CPU/GPU/RAM view, process list + kill, shutdown / restart / lock. Full PRO control needs a PRO license on the PC.

This is not public-internet remote control - LAN only. Discovery issues? Check Wi-Fi (not guest), PIN, and firewall.
