Discord overlay stuttering the game? Kill the overlay, not Discord
The Discord overlay sits on the game frame pipeline. In User Settings turn Enable Overlay off (Overlay / Game Overlay). Leave Discord running. Hardware acceleration: Settings > Advanced. SmoothWizard shader cache is in the tray. Pausing processes on fullscreen is PRO.
Voice can stay. The overlay does not have to. Same class of hitch as Steam and GeForce: an extra layer on every frame.

Disable overlay globally
Discord > User Settings > Overlay (or Game Overlay under Activity Settings). Enable Overlay off. Restart Discord and the game.

Or per game
Registered Games: the monitor icon disables overlay for one title. Keep it on elsewhere if you want.

Hardware acceleration
Settings > Advanced > Hardware Acceleration off if Discord is sharing the GPU with the game. Separate from overlay, often stacked.

Fullscreen, not borderless
Exclusive fullscreen makes overlay hooks harder. V-Sync off in-game. Discord stays - without the overlay.

Basic: power plan. PRO: pause chosen processes when the game is fullscreen. Do not run two boosters at once.

Do I have to quit Discord?
No. Overlay off, hardware acceleration optional. Voice works without drawing on frames.
Overlay is off and it still hitches.
Check Steam, the NVIDIA App, and Xbox Game Bar. One overlay is enough to spike frametime.
Does SmoothWizard kill Discord?
It does not inject into the game. PRO can pause chosen processes on fullscreen if Discord is on the list.
