NVIDIA Reflex in CS2: Enabled, Boost, and why not Ultra
NVIDIA Reflex in CS2 is a Video latency mode, not the GeForce overlay. Start with Enabled. Enabled + Boost holds higher GPU clocks and uses more power. Do not also enable NVIDIA Control Panel Low Latency Mode Ultra when the game has Reflex. If 1% lows tank, test Disabled or -noreflex. Turn the NVIDIA overlay off separately. SmoothWizard does not toggle Reflex. Power plan is Basic. Pause processes is PRO.
CS2 threads keep bouncing Reflex versus -noreflex after patches. NVIDIA describes Reflex Low Latency as synchronizing CPU and GPU rendering to cut system latency. That is not Instant Replay. SmoothWizard does not flip this setting in CS2.
Why it stutters
The frame queue between CPU and GPU adds delay even when average FPS looks fine. Reflex Low Latency trims that queue in-game. CS2 exposes Disabled, Enabled, and Enabled + Boost. NVIDIA Control Panel has a separate Low Latency Mode Off, On, Ultra, which is the driver queue. Ultra plus Reflex is two mechanisms on one pipeline. -noreflex is a community launch option, not a Valve menu row. NVIDIA marks Reflex 2 Frame Warp as coming soon. Do not pretend CS2 already ships it.
Key points
- Reflex = CS2 Video. GeForce overlay = a different hook. Turn that off separately.
- Enabled first. Boost is a second test (power, thermals, 1% lows).
- Do not enable Reflex and Low Latency Mode Ultra in the NVIDIA panel together.
- -noreflex is a test when Enabled wrecks 1% lows. It is not NVIDIA's default path.
- 1
Split overlay from Reflex
NVIDIA App / GeForce Experience overlay and Instant Replay are overlay. Reflex Low Latency is a video option. Overlay off (separate Steam/NVIDIA guide). This page is Reflex only.
- 2
CS2: NVIDIA Reflex Enabled
Settings > Video > NVIDIA Reflex Low Latency: Enabled. NVIDIA says Reflex synchronizes CPU and GPU rendering. We do not paste milliseconds or FPS from someone else's PC.
- 3
Boost as a second test
Enabled + Boost holds higher GPU clocks so latency does not climb when the card downclocks. On a laptop or a weak PSU you check thermals and 1% lows separately. If Boost wrecks frametime, go back to Enabled.
- 4
Do not enable Ultra together with Reflex
NVIDIA Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Low Latency Mode. When CS2 has Reflex, leave Off or On and do not add Ultra as a second latency trick. Ultra trims the driver queue. Reflex does it in-game.
- 5
Test -noreflex
If Enabled wrecks 1% lows (frame times jump even when average FPS looks similar), Steam > CS2 > Properties > Launch options: -noreflex. That is a community test, not a Valve menu toggle. You compare on your machine, without numbers from the internet.
- 6
Do not mix V-Sync here
This guide does not set V-Sync or fps_max. That is a separate page. Here: Reflex. V-Sync off until you run a deliberate G-SYNC test. Do not stack every forum combo at once.
- 7
Fullscreen
Fullscreen. Borderless plus overlay plus Reflex is three variables. For a Reflex test you keep fullscreen and overlay off.
- 8
SmoothWizard
Basic: power plan. PRO: pause processes on fullscreen. The app does not enable Reflex, does not append -noreflex, and does not touch the NVIDIA panel. One booster.
Notes
AMD Anti-Lag is a different stack, not a Reflex clone. This page is NVIDIA. NVIDIA marks Reflex 2 / Frame Warp as coming soon. We do not claim CS2 already has it. Sources below: the Reflex page and CS2 on Steam.
FAQ
Click a question to show the answer. The first one is open.
Is Reflex the same as the NVIDIA overlay?
No. Overlay is the hook (Shift+Z, Instant Replay). Reflex is the CS2 Video latency mode. You turn overlay off separately.
Is Enabled + Boost always better?
No. Boost holds higher clocks, so power and thermals. On a laptop Enabled often stays. You measure 1% lows, not average FPS from YouTube.
Is -noreflex official?
It is a community launch option. NVIDIA does not present it as the default path. You use it when Enabled wrecks frametime on your card.
Can I run Reflex and Ultra Low Latency together?
No. When the game has Reflex, use Reflex in Video. Leave Ultra in the NVIDIA panel off.
Does CS2 already have NVIDIA Reflex 2?
NVIDIA describes Reflex 2 Frame Warp as coming soon. This guide is Reflex Low Latency, which CS2 exposes in Video.
Does SmoothWizard enable Reflex?
No. It does not inject into CS2 and does not change the NVIDIA panel. Power plan = Basic. Pause processes = PRO.
