How to increase CS2 FPS on a laptop without a magic booster

Updated 2026-09-16

On a laptop CS2 usually dies from battery limits, the integrated GPU, and power saving - not from a missing booster. Play plugged in, assign CS2 to NVIDIA/AMD, use a high-performance plan, and turn overlays off. In SmoothWizard the power plan is Basic. Pausing chosen processes on fullscreen is PRO.

A 500+ FPS desktop will barely notice. A 16 GB laptop with a 4-6 GB dGPU will. Below: changes that move 1% lows, with no promised frame count.

  1. 1

    Play plugged in

On battery, Windows and firmware drop CPU and GPU clocks even when Settings does not show a separate mode. CS2 belongs on the charger, not on power saving.

  2. 2

    Force the dGPU, not iGPU

In Windows Settings: System > Display > Graphics set cs2.exe to High performance (discrete GPU). Same in the NVIDIA/AMD panel. If the game runs on Intel/AMD iGPU, in-game sliders will not save you.

  3. 3

    Power plan and heat

High performance or the OEM Performance mode. SmoothWizard Basic switches the power plan while optimization is on. After 10-20 minutes thermal throttle cuts frames - a stand and dust beat another tweaker.

  4. 4

    Less VRAM pressure, fewer overlays

On 4-6 GB VRAM use Medium/Low textures and low shadows. Discord, Chrome, and launchers eat CPU. Overlays off. Cap FPS to the panel Hz.

  5. 5

    SmoothWizard checklist

Basic: power plan. PRO / 7-day trial: pause chosen processes when the game is fullscreen, plus a per-title config. Do not run two boosters at once.

Is PRO worth it on a laptop?

If power, dGPU, and background are already sane - yes. That is the Trustpilot segment that reports a real difference. Process pause is PRO, not Free. A 500+ FPS desktop often feels nothing.

Do I have to set every slider to Low?

Shadows and extra effects first. Textures depend on VRAM. Fullscreen and V-Sync off usually beat another Low on models.

The laptop cooks after 15 minutes. Is that software?

Partly. Throttling is physics. Software can quiet the background and the power plan. It cannot replace paste and airflow.
